Discover Emilia: the land of excellence

“Emilia is that piece of land created by God so men could make Ferraris. This is what Emilians are like. They have to make a car? They make a Ferrari, a Maserati or a Lamborghini. They have to make a motorcycle? They build a Ducati. They have to make a cheese? They invent Parmigiano Reggiano. They have to make some spaghetti? They set up Barilla. They have to make you a coffee? They make you Saeco. They have to find someone who writes and sings songs? They give you people like Pavarotti, Dalla, Morandi, Vasco and Liga. They have to make you a syringe? They come up with a biomedical company. They have to make 4 tiles? They produce majolica. They are like the Japanese: they never stop, they never get tired and if they have to make something, they like to make something brilliant, beautiful and useful to everyone. Are there stones to pick up after an earthquake? They will eventually use them to make cathedrals.”

Il Resto del Carlino

For us, this is the perfect picture of a land which over time has always been able to stand out, excel and be appreciated in every field.

Just think of our culinary tradition which has made us famous around the world, to the extent that Forbes recognised it as the best cooking in the world. Products like Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, Tortellini, Tagliatelle, Balsamic Vinegar and Lambrusco really need no introduction!

Then if we are talking about specific districts, how can we not mention the ceramics of Sassuolo, the textiles of Carpi, the packaging industry around Bologna, the cured meats of Parma, the biomedical industry of Modena and Bologna, as well as the agricultural machinery and mechatronics of Reggio Emilia.

Another excellence which makes us proud to be Emilian is our extraordinary ability to build legendary cars and motorcycles: Lamborghini, Ferrari, Ducati, Pagani and Maserati are proof of this.

Food, industry, engines and much more: the educational model for early childhood, known as the Reggio Approach, is a source of study and inspiration for educational models all around the world.

But Emilia has also always been a breeding ground for nurturing art, music and ingenuity, serving as the birthplace of people like Guglielmo Marconi, Antonio and Luciano Ligabue (a painter and singer respectively), Antonio Allegri, Giuseppe Verdi, Matilda of Canossa, M.M. Boiardo, Pavarotti, Pico della Mirandola, Enzo Ferrari, Paolini and Ludovico Ariosto.

All this explains why the EsserEmiliano Project was set up to help each of us discover the reality and specific characteristics of this region, so you can appreciate, savour and fall in love with our beautiful Emilia.

Enjoy your trip!
